You're a Computer Science student?

 

You feel confident about your English but want to learn how to use it in a mathematical context?

 

Well then you came to the right place!

 

This course focuses on the English competencies required to complete the course Mathematics for Computer Scientists (Mathematik für Informatiker/Imformatikerinnen I).

 

In this course you will learn / practice:

 

· Using mathematical terminology,

· Pronunciation of mathematical notation and equations,

· The structure of and particular features of language (grammar and lexis) commonly used  in mathematical texts (e.g. lecture scripts, textbooks, formal proofs, etc.),

· Oral discussion of problems and presentation of solutions,

 

NB: In this course it is possible to earn 3 ECTS points

This course is addressed to students who study Computer Sciences (i.e. other students can only participate if the course is not completely booked by this group).

 

Please note that you must have specified your course of study when you registered as a user. If you failed to do this, please send a scan of your enrollment certificate to englisch@szsb.uni-saarland.de.

 

(1) a corresponding placement test result (i.e. II.1 or above)

(2) the successful completion of Zertifikatskurs 3 at the Language Center, or

(3) the successful completion of an English course at UNIcert level II-1 or above at the Language Center.

 

Please note that the last result known to us (placement test or course completed with a certificate) must not be older than 3 semesters. If it has been a while since your last course or placement test, you will have to take the placement test again.
